Website Design Glossary
XForms
A future version of HTML Forms, based on XML and XHTML. It provides greater device independent user input, and separates data definition from data display.
XHTML
eXtensible HyperText Markup Language. A webpage building language developed by W3C which uses the HTML specifications within the constraints of the XML format.
XML
eXtensible Markup Language. A language used to describe content or data developed by W3C. It puts text and data in a format that can be processed without much human or machine intelligence. It can be easily transferred between platforms, programs and languages. It is a complement to HTML.
XPath
XPath is a set of syntax rules by W3C for defining parts of an XML document.
Xquery
XQuery is a set of syntax rules by W3C for extracting information from XML documents.
XSL

ZIP
A compression format for computer files that compresses the data by deleting some common information.
Zooming
Changing the scale of an image or map, usually with the same amount of screen space it occupies.
