Website Design Glossary
Top Down
The opposite of Bottom Up. It is an approach which begins at a high, general level and works toward lower, more specific levels.
Top Down Architecture
The prefered method of website construction, beginning with the Index page (top keyword theme), continuing with Landing Pages (secondary keyword themes), and finishing with Company Pages (copyright notice, terms of use, privacy, etc.) and Support Pages (glossaries, FAQ, Pricing, etc.).
Topic Maps
An ISO standard for representing knowledge structures and associating information and resources with those structures. It represents the topics and relationships between the topics. They are often used in building topic-driven content websites.
Topology (website)
The configuration of a network or website.
Traffic Death Redesign
A sudden and dramatic drop in website traffic due to a redesign of the site's architecture and change of page names. Without further action, the old pages no longer exist and anyone clicking on a search engine link receives a Error 404 Message - page not found.
