Website Design Glossary
Ninety-Ninety Rule
A saying about the difficulty of writing computer code - “The first ninety percent of the code accounts for the first ninety percent of the development time. The remaining ten percent of the code accounts for the other ninety percent of the development time.”
NoFollow
An attribute in a hyperlink or robots tag instructing the search engine not to follow the link or pass pagerank.
Nondangling Node
A webpage with at least one outbound link.
Obfuscation
Using IP Delivery with intent to provide excellent SEO content to search engine spiders, and deliberately poor SEO content to users so that any content theft by competitors results in poor search engine rankings. It is an intentional effort to make something unclear or difficult to understand by using unfamiliar terminology.
Off-Page Factors
Components that alter search engine results positions that occur external to the website, such as securing backlinks from other websites.
OIL
Ontology Inference Layer. A web-based ontology representation and inference layer combining frame-based languages with the semantics and reasoning services to provide a general markup language for the Semantic Web.
