Website Design Glossary
Hypertext
Text that contains links (a path to a different web location) connecting it with other related text.
Hypertext Induced Topic Search
A query-dependent ranking system for evaluating webpages as authorities or hubs.
HyperText Markup Language
A language used to structure content on a webpage. Although the HTML has the ability to significantly impact the appearance of the page, HTML should be used exclusively for structure, with CSS used to format the page.
Hypertext Preprocessor
PHP is a server-side, cross-platform scripting language used for Web development that can be embedded into the HTML.
Hyphenated URLs
The use of hyphens in a URL is preferable to spaces or underscores in separating characters in a URL.
Icon A small image representation to represent commands, files, or options.
ID Selector
A syntax for specifying a CSS selector by having a unique ID attribute of an element. The name of the ID Selector in styles is preceeded by a pound sign (#).
Iframe
An inline frame inside a normal HTML document that embeds another HTML document.
