Website Design Glossary
Callout
Text beside, near a photograph or illustration. It typically highlights a detail in the graphic, verbalizes the analogy implied by the graphic or emphasizes the message delivered through the graphic.
Cascade (CSS)
In CSS, this refers to a hierarchical system for handling conflicting style sheets that assigns different weights to various sources of style information.
Cascading Style Sheets
CSS. A Hyper Text Markup Language specification that allows web developer to use codes to describe how a pages contents should look. Of particular importance in defining the styling and lay out of text, paragraphs and headings. A great feature of CSS is that each style can be defined in an external document and only referred to in the actual HTML webpage, allowing for quicker pageloads and pre-formatted documents.
Category
A collection of webpages or websites sharing a common attribute.
Cell Padding
The space between the border and the content.
CGI
Common Gateway Interface, a scripting program which allows webpages to be created as requested.
CGI Bin
The folder or directory on a web server that stores CGI programs.
