Below The Fold
BTF. The portion of a webpage not visible to a visitor unless they scroll down.
Best Practice
A technique or methodology that, through experience and research, has proven to reliably lead to a desired result.
Bitmap
A format for storing images.
Blinking
In graphic displays, an intentional periodic change in intensity of one or more display elements.
Block Level Analysis
A method of analyzing a webpage by examining each section as opposed to the entire page. MSN is reputed to employ Block Level Analysis as part of its algorithm in determining relevant webpages.
BMP
See Bitmap.
Body Text Tag
The HTML document's content, it is the visible text in the browser along with images and links.
Bold
A way to emphasize a word and make it appear to be more important.
Bottom Up
The opposite of top down. A method that builds simple low-level objects into more complex higher-level objects.
Breadcrumb Navigation
Navigation technique helping users understand the relationship between pages.
