Back-end
The term applied to the software and database technology that is on a server for the interactive activity that is displayed to visitor using a web browser.
Background (webpages)
A color or image, usually defined in HTML or CSS, that serves as the underlying color or imagery for a webpage. Browsers can also be configured to specify a background.
Backward Compatible
Design that continues to work with earlier versions of a program or language.
Banner (advertising)
Scrolling or fixed text used as an advertisement on a webpage.
Banner (scrolling)
An HTML tag that creates scrolling text on a webpage.
Banner Ad
The small boxed message (usually 468 pixels wide by 60 pixels in height) that appears at the top of commercial websites and are usually hyperlinked to the advertiser's website.
Banner Blindness
The act of users of ignoring banner advertisements, whether textual or images.
BBEdit
A Macintosh text editor for hand-coding HTML, javascript or other scripting or coding languages.
Beacon Pages
A webpage created to increase search engine rankings for a website at a different IP Address by increasing the number of related pages linking to the main website.
