Website Design Glossary
Alignment
The positioning of text or images on a webpage, typically left, right or center. Vertical alignment is also possible.
All Points Addressable
A mode in computer graphics where every pixel in an image can be individually manipulated.
Alphabar
Method of subdividing a category by letter. Letters of the alphabet are listed across the top of a page, and each letter category contains sites beginning with that letter.
Alt Attribute
The HTML element placed within an image tag. Visually impaired humans and most search engines cannot easily ascertain what is in an image. Using an image Alt Attribute helps screen readers and search engines understand the image by providing a text equivalent for the object.

Alternative Text
Text which is provided as an alternative or substitute for an image. It appears before an image is fully loaded.
Ambush Marketing
A deliberate attempt by a website to associate itself with an event in order to gain some of the benefits associated with being an official sponsor without incurring the costs of sponsorship.
